It finally happened. The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment that has been going on for over half of the year has finally come to an end. What started out as a playful instructional video on how to save someone's life while they were choking, to seeing Shia Lebeouf's flacid hog now comes to a conclusion with "Leaning Towards Solace". And with the conclusion it seems as if they saved the best for last. What plays out as more of a mini film, the new visuals take the songs "Dauðalogn" and "Varúð", combined with a few voice-overs and a storyline about a man (John Hawkes of Deadwood) at the end of his wits and a young ballerina (Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning's sister) and turn them into an experience fit for Cannes. I don't know why, but for some reason I was reminded of Donnie Darko while watching this video. Maybe it's because the man speaking in this sounded like Frank (the scary bunny dude from DD) or the message at the end that I won't spoil for you now. Whatever the case, "Leaning Towards Solace" was definitely enjoyable and really seems to take the true emotion from Sigur Rós' music and put it into visual form. If you would like to check out the entire experiment and all of the films, you can do so over at the band's website.
Video was directed by Floria Sigismondi.
