Surfer Blood - Weird Shapes (Free Download)
There is usually a preconceived notion that once a gritty underground band such as Surfer Blood gets picked up by a major label, they immediately lose their street cred and turn into some mainstream puppet doing whatever they're told all so they can get that paper. Now there's nothing wrong with getting paid, just as long as the sound stays true to the band. So fans of Surfer Blood have been waiting on pins and needles to hear that first single off of the forthcoming album after they were signed by Warner Brothers. The new song "Weird Shapes" definitely has a cleaner sound to it most likely from the upgrade of studio and production equipment that Warner provides, and the tune is right in line with that pop-punk sound that Surfer Blood exudes so well. Overall I'd say after first listen, there is nothing to worry about. Although I always was a fan of the rawness in recordings that lesser equipment added to songs. New album Pythons will be out later this year, but for now you can grab "Weird Shapes" for free over at the band's website.

Just for comparison sake you can listen to their single "Swim" which was originally released in 2009 pre Warner Bros.
